Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin will inaugurate the Institute for Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technology (INSAIT) in Sofia on 11 April. The institute is a collaboration between Sofia University, EPFL, and ETH Zurich.

Switzerland's two federal institutes of technology will support INSAIT with their scientific expertise. Mr Parmelin will meet with Bulgarian President Rumen Radev, Prime Minister Kiril Petkov, Minister of Innovation and Growth Daniel Lorer, and Minister of Education and Science Nikolai Denkov to discuss Swiss-Bulgarian cooperation.

He will also meet with EU Commissioner Mariya Gabriel to discuss Switzerland's situation in the European research and innovation landscape. Bulgaria has expressed interest in furthering cooperation with Switzerland in vocational education, training, research, and innovation.

The Swiss National Science Foundation has supported over 70 research projects involving Bulgarian researchers since 2011. Switzerland has awarded 100 Government Excellence Scholarships to Bulgarian researchers and artists since 1964..
