State Secretary for Education, Research and Innovation Martina Hirayama will travel to India from 23 to 28 March on a science mission with a science delegation, visiting Bangalore and New Delhi. Switzerland and India have a long-standing cooperation in education, research and innovation (ERI).

The visit aims to strengthen bilateral relations in these areas through official talks with relevant ministries and visits to research institutes and businesses in India. The two countries have had a bilateral agreement since 2003 to enhance cooperation in science and innovation, with a Joint Committee Meeting planned in Bern later this year.

Swissnex in Bangalore supports networking between Swiss and Indian ERI stakeholders, while the SNSF and partner agencies have funded about 240 joint research projects since 2016. SERI has designated ZHAW as the leading house for South Asia and Iran to expand scientific cooperation, and the Confederation has awarded almost 340 Excellence Scholarships to Indian researchers since 1961..
