Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin and Denmark’s Minister of Higher Education and Science Christina Egelund signed a memorandum of understanding in Copenhagen on 20 March to enhance cooperation between the universities, researchers, innovation stakeholders and funding bodies of both countries. The signing followed a joint scientific committee meeting between Denmark and Switzerland.

The memorandum of understanding focuses on areas such as quantum sciences and technologies, life sciences, climate and sustainability, energy, information and communication technology, artificial intelligence, materials science and engineering, space, and the humanities and social sciences. Switzerland and Denmark are world leaders in life sciences and quantum science.

Greater cooperation between the two countries will maximize the potential of these technologies. Denmark is an important European partner for Swiss researchers, with over 600 projects conducted together under the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, Horizon 2020.

The initiative for cross-border innovation promotion in Europe, EUREKA, has supported over 60 cooperation projects between partners from Switzerland and Denmark since its establishment in 1985..
