Switzerland has signed an implementation agreement with Greece to allocate CHF 40 million in support of migration-related projects and programmes. The migration framework credit, which supports migration management structures in Europe, identified Greece as one of three countries for cooperation with Switzerland in 2019.
Negotiations were completed in July 2021, and the agreement was signed on 14 October in Luxembourg by Federal Councillor Karin Keller-Sutter and Greek Minister of Migration and Asylum Notis Mitarachi. The agreement covers asylum, infrastructure, integration, and voluntary return and reintegration.
Switzerland’s expertise will also provide added value to the cooperation. The partnership will benefit EU member states with external borders exposed to high migratory pressure and reinforce security within the Schengen area.
Support measures under the cooperation programme are set to run from 2023 to 2026..
