Neuchâtel, 23.06.2022 - A total of 89 600 live births were registered in 2021, three-quarters of which were to women aged 30 or over, writes the Swiss Federal Council.
Furthermore, the increase in the births of second and subsequent children was greater than that of first children. In the same year, almost three children in ten were born out of wedlock.
In parallel, an increase in marriages and divorces was observed, as was a decrease in registered same-sex partnerships and dissolved partnerships. Additionally, there were fewer deaths in 2021 than in 2020. These are the definitive findings of the Vital Statistics for 2021 from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
